Mary Means ‘82

The National Trust for Historic Preservation announced its 2020 awards last week and Mary Means received its top honor—the Louise du Pont Crowninshield Award. According to the Trust, Mary’s brainchild, the 1970s Main Street Project, was an early demonstration of the power of placing historic preservation within an economic development framework. Its evolution into the expansive and influential Main Street America was cited by the Trust as“indisputable evidence of superlative achievement in the preservation and interpretation of our historic, architectural, or maritime heritage.” Read more about Mary’s visionary work in the Trust’s October announcement
