2022 Virtual Study Tour

The Fall Study Tour went virtual this year, giving us the opportunity to visit far-flung locations in a single weekend. It also offered international Loebs the chance to share inside knowledge of their home turf.

Loebs in London, Amsterdam, Mexico City, and Rio de Janeiro produced videos and panel discussions featuring the voices of local experts, and answering questions posed by a global audience of Loebs and other guests.

The Tour was organized by the Engagement Committee with a big assist from Helen Marriage ‘13 and her London-based company, Artichoke. The videos and conversations were broadcast live on Jan. 21 & 22, 2022—our first virtual, first international, and first winter Fall Study Tour. Thanks, pandemic!

Day 1 - London and Amsterdam

  • London

    Helen Marriage presents “This is London” exploring the London that exists out of the public perception – particularly off the tourist map - in areas like Barking and Dagenham or the East End.

    Following the film Virtual Study Tour host, Virginia Prescott ‘02 moderates a discussion with guests:

  • Amsterdam

    Tracy Metz LF'07 and Michiel van Iersel LF'19 will take you on a tour of their hometown during an hour-long canal boat trip, meeting interesting people and discussing the urgent developments shaping Amsterdam.

Day 2 - Rio de Janeiro and Mexico City

  • Rio de Janeiro

    Rio Planning Director Washington Farjado ‘19 walks around downtown, discussing the city’s housing and development issues.

    Following the tour Virginia and Washington consider how the urban challenges presented in the London and Amsterdam sessions compare with those facing Rio.

  • Mexico City

    Surella Segu ‘18 takes us on a tour of four very different neighborhoods in Mexico City interviewing residents along the way.

    Following the video, Virginia interviews Surella and partner Armando Hashimoto about the selection of the four neighborhoods and what they learned from the project.
