A note from Helen:

My company, Artichoke, is currently Creative Director of the European Capital of Culture in Ireland, Galway 2020.  We have a year-long programme of events planned from February 2020 to February 2021 showcasing great Irish and Galwegian culture, as well as reflecting on what it means to be a citizen of the planet in the 21st century.   Our themes are language, landscape and migration…all very pertinent.

Last weekend we were to have hosted thousands of people visiting a remote part of the County, the Connemara Mountains at a place called Lough NaFuaiche where the Finnish artist Kari Kola and his team were to have illuminated a 5 mile stretch of the mountainside.  Government CoVid19 restrictions prevented crowds from gathering, but we managed to run the piece for 12 hours in order to capture it digitally.

I thought you might like to share the images and digital edition with the network as an example of the resilience that we need to see at the moment.  It was a huge effort by a dedicated team of artists and brings a moment of peace and wonder to a worried world.

Enjoy

Helen
